For Jatin Mehta, diamonds and fine jewellery are more than the catalyst for his long and successful career: they are also a personal passion. Ever since founding his first successful company in 1985, Mehta has involved himself in many aspects of the diamond and fine jewellery trade. His first company, Su-Raj Diamonds (India) Limited, was recognised as the first publicly listed company in all of India and specialised in the trade of cut and polished diamonds. After the initial success of this company, Jatin Mehta would go on to oversee its daily operations for the next 25 years. During this busy time, he also found time to serve as the youngest ever chairman of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council - a post which he held from 1989 to 1993.
After over two decades of successful leadership at Su-Raj Diamonds, which is now known as Winsome Diamonds and Jewellery Limited, Jatin Mehta made the decision to pursue his goal of trading diamonds and fine jewellery within the United Arab Emirates. It was this decision that led to the founding of his second company, Pride Jewellery FZE, established in the UAE in 2012. This company successfully trades in both diamond and gold fine jewellery but also offers consultancy services to many clients throughout the region. He presently continues to serve as the owner and managing director of this company.
Jatin Mehta's family background was a major factor that influenced him to pursue his chosen career path. His family has been involved in the diamond and jewellery industry in India since the 1960s and they first exposed him to the nuances of the trade. Early exposure to the diamond industry led him to pursue a degree at the Hassaram Rijhumal College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai after he graduated from Hill Grange High School in 1972. He successfully obtained his Bachelor's degree in Commerce in 1977 and founded his first successful company just a few years later.
When he is not busy working as the director of Pride Jewellery FZE, Jatin Mehta continues to study diamonds and fine jewellery in his personal life. He also finds time to enjoy a wide variety of vegetarian cuisines and to watch his favourite sports; tennis and cricket.
